Robert is intent on revenge against Andy – is this all about his jealousy over Andy’s
relationship with Jack? Well yes, over the years Andy’s done plenty to deserve a little bit of vengeance,
especially meddling with him and Katie.
It’s a business proposition from the Kings that triggered it, then the
next day Jack wrote Andy a big cheque and it really riled Robert and he’s also getting no help with the garage with
Scott incapacitated. It’s been a combination of all those things that have pushed Robert over the edge.
What happens when he tries to spike Andy’s drinks – does he have any conscience over getting involved? I
think he’d quite like Andy to get done at that point, a drink driving conviction would really mess him up as he wouldn’t
be able to operate any farm machinery or anything. If he lost his licence it would really screw him up, I don’t think
Robert’s conscience is playing much of a role, he’s quite happy to see Andy in trouble.
Why does Robert agree so easily to get involved in the fire at the farm? Well it’s basically
his idea in the end. He believes Andy and his Dad are going to be out all day and so it’s just going to financially
mess them up, and it will look like a botched insurance job, and so he’ll get no money and have to sell the field which
the Kings want, it’s a great plan actually! It’s just the execution which goes a bit wayward.
What is going through his mind when they start the fire? Well he bottles it a little when he actually
gets there and Andy turns up with Daz and he’s fixed the quad bike somehow, so they come back on the quad bike unexpectedly
and at that point Robert is ready to get out and leave it for another day, unfortunately Cain and Jimmy have other ideas and
decide that the plan should go ahead.
Do you think he surprises himself when he defends Andy during the beating? Yeah he’s
a bystander for most of it, like the starting of the fire and when Cain jumps Andy, Robert lets it go on for a while and then
when Andy really starts to get a pasting, he thinks that’s a bit too much, even by Robert’s standards and has
to step in and say that’s enough.
Does Robert think Andy has seen him there at
this point? Well no because Andy’s half conscious on the floor, so he doesn’t really think that,
only a few words are spoken to Cain saying leave him be, by this point Andy’s on the floor covered in his own blood
being stamped on by Cain and Jimmy, so I think he thinks he’s alright, its only later he realises that Andy knows that
it was Robert that was there.
Does Robert feel guilty afterwards? No he
doesn’t feel guilty he stands by what he has done, he feels it was deserved, perhaps not the beating, but yeah it could
have gone a hell of a lot better and it would have done if Robert was on his own, it’s the other two who bodged it!
Will he let it go with Andy now that the fire scam ended so badly? No
he’s going to keep going, he doesn’t want him dead but he wants to make his life hell. Robert blames Andy for
making his own life hell because he’s lost his family - no one speaks to him and Victoria ignores him. So it just makes
him want to see Andy suffer more.
Robert will stop at nothing for revenge
